The amount of adhesive depends on three things: the area you are tiling, the thickness of the adhesive bed, and how much you lose to wastage.
The formula
kg = area (m²) × bed thickness (mm) × 1.5
1.5 kg per m² per mm is a typical figure for cement-based tile adhesive. Divide by 20 for the number of SHRI TILEXO bags, then add 5–10% for wastage. 1 m² is 10.76 sq. ft.
Worked examples
| Job | Bed | Adhesive | Bags (incl. 10%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100 sq. ft, 300 mm ceramic floor | 3 mm | ≈ 42 kg | 3 |
| 500 sq. ft, 600 × 600 vitrified floor | 4 mm | ≈ 279 kg | 16 |
| 1,000 sq. ft, 600 × 1200 floor | 6 mm | ≈ 836 kg | 46 |
What pushes the number up
- Uneven floors or walls that need a thicker bed.
- Back-buttering large tiles, which is recommended for full coverage.
- Tiles with deep patterns or lugs on the back.
